Dean has been with TEC since May 2024 filling the role of Site Supervisor for the Central Coast Ecological Restoration Team.

He has nearly 15 years’ experience in the Ecological Restoration field, including 8 years supervising experience managing a diverse range of crews from central Queensland to the Sydney region of New South Wales.

Dean has worked in a wide variety of ecological communities which has given him an expansive knowledge of flora and fauna, especially in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest types. He has developed skills in specialised ecological restoration, weed management, revegetation, landscaping and heavy vehicle operations over his career.

With a good knowledge of WHS practices related to the industry, Dean enjoys training staff and sharing his knowledge with new recruits who are passionate about learning all aspects of the on groundwork requirements.

Dean grew up on the far north coast of NSW and in SE QLD where his parents both worked in the environmental field. His late father was a well-regarded ornithologist, and his mother a botanist and they both worked on threatened species management in these areas, discovering several previously undescribed plant species. They travelled across the country in his early years, allowing Dean to spend school holidays camping in remote locations learning about nature.
